I always mean well...

when I start a blog. That was the case when I started this blog back in April. Today I was inspired to write an entry. I had to walk to the post office to pick up some books I ordered from Amazon.com and a used book seller that the postal carrier decided she would not leave at my door like all the other books I've ordered over the years.

I walked, got lost, made phone calls for directions, but in the end found the spot on my own after circling around for way too long cursing USPS under my breath. I'm sure a few people thought I was crazy along the way, but anyway...

I have my books, which have brought my personal library just shy of 500. Not really(I'm closer to 500 than 400 anyway), but I did purchase #s 448, 449, 450, 451, 452, 453. Whenever I tell people how many books I own I have to go check the number again on librarything.com because I still can't believe I've accumulated so many. The latest titles include: Party of the People (a history of the democratic party to pair with the one I already own on the Republican party), A Brief History of Neoliberalism (self-explanatory), and Black is a Country (a history of the civil rights movement in America with a global/international perspective).

I will actually be reading Black is a Country for a class I decided to audit for whatever reason. I thought I was done taking classes a year and a half ago. Maybe I'll get a around to blogging about it afterward or one of the other books I'm reading for my proposal.

Now I'm going to go shelve these books. Book placement is key. I remember an article in the school newspaper of my undergraduate college. A pipe in the building where the graduate students burst due to cold weather and several students rooms got flooded. Grad students reported frantically picking their books up off the floor and putting them in the bathtub to keep them safe. I laughed when I read the story, but even then I knew that if it happened to me I would be livid. I'm always planning on taking out renters insurance, my books being the biggest motivation to do so. Saving the books is paramount! Anyway, I'm going to go put these books away and think about possibly, one day, in the near future, writing something else here. (Something with real substance for once... maybe.)
